A Year of Fear

This ceramic line is born from the events of 2020. In the wake of the pandemic I stopped making art. I felt paralyzed by the shock and fear of witnessing death and despair on a global level. The brutality of the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor drove home the scope of systemic racism in the US, and sent shock waves around the world. The fires on the west coast and in Australia in the summer of 2020, among other climate disasters, brought the escalating scale of the climate crisis into vivid focus. The non-stop horror show of the Trump administration felt cataclysmic. For me, art-making seemed meaningless in the presence of so much pain and suffering.

To make art again, I needed to rethink the purpose of my work. My new goal would be to create art in the spirit of service.

My vision is to support organizations that address systemic racism, human rights, and climate change. Proceeds from each sale of my ceramics will be donated to an organization that supports police reform, voting rights, combating gun violence, women’s health, BLM, and scientific research focused on the climate crisis. Customers will be prompted to choose their preferred organization from a drop down menu at check-out.
